Biomass seminar and expo at Saint Francis University

Biomass seminar and expo at Saint Francis University
The Saint Francis University Renewable Energy Center will hold a biomass seminar and expo on March 12, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on the campus of Saint Francis University in Loretto.

The event will be geared toward helping agricultural producers and small businesses determine if a biomass project may be feasible in their operations. Recommendations and information on how to use the energy source will be provided.

During the seminar, attendees will learn about the resource, the technology, the pros and cons, and financial aspects, as well as what to look for when choosing an installer. Industry representatives and related organizations will be on hand to meet with attendees in an expo environment.

A tour of a local facility utilizing biomass in its operations will also be included, allowing a firsthand look at how the resource can be used.

Biomass is organic material, such as wood and manure. It can be used to produce heat, electricity, and fuel.
The event is the first in a series of seminars to be organized by the Renewable Energy Center in 2013, each focusing on one of the five prevalent renewable energy forms in Pennsylvania. Additional events will cover geothermal, micro-hydro, solar, and wind energies.

Utilizing renewable energy can help rural Pennsylvanians by reducing energy costs, reducing risk, and providing a revenue stream through electrical sales to utilities.

Early registrations will be accepted up to Tuesday, March 5, for $10. Late registrations will be accepted until Friday, March 8, for $12. Lunch will be included.

Exhibit space will be available to businesses and related organizations, as well as speaker and sponsorship opportunities.
