Cresson lake Playhouse announces open auditions for “West Side Story” held on Tuesday June 3 and Wednesday June 4 at 6:30 P.M. with call-backs scheduled for Thursday June 5 at 6:30 p.m. Auditions for “West Side Story” will held at Cresson Lake's Ebensburg Rehearsal Hall located at 526 West Ogle Street (2nd floor) in Ebensburg. “West Side Story” is under the direction of Kevin Bean, who is making his directorial debut at Cresson Lake Playhouse. Kevin was previously seen at Cresson Lake Playhouse in our recent productions of “RENT”, “Avenue Q”, “Next to Normal”, “Spamalot”, and “9 to 5 The Musical.”


Cresson Lake Playhouse welcomes both newcomers and experienced actors to audition for “West Side Story” featuring a variety of roles at all performance levels. Auditions are open, easy and friendly, and no prior experience is necessary. “West Side Story” is based on a Conception of Jerome Robbins, Arthur Laurents. Music by Leonard Bernstein Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Music direction provided by Valerie E. Galczynski.



Prospective cast members should select a portion of a song from a musical of approximately 32 bars (no more than one verse and chorus) that best demonstrates your vocal range, musicality, interpretive skills and acting ability.  Bring sheet music in a binder or single sheets taped together that contain full piano accompaniment, not just chord symbols.  An accompanist will be provided.




Everyone will be asked to dance. Actors will be taught a dance combination which will then be performed in small groups. Please wear or bring suitable footwear for your dance audition.



ANITA – Feisty and assertive

MARIA – A hopeless romantic

DOC – Owner of the candy store where the jets hang out, old fashion and wise in his ways.

DECTECTIVE SCHRANK – Blunt, brash, and unapologetic

OFFICER KRUPKE – Local beat cop who has not patience for the gangs

RIFF – A spritely, quick-tempered leader. Tony’s best friend

CHINO – An angry and at times a naïve Shark

TONY – A romantic young man and former leader of the Jets who finds a new lifestyle.

ANYBODYS – A spunky tomboy who is desperate to become a member of the Jets.

BERNARDO – A proud, strong, handsome man, Maria’s brother and Anita’s boyfriend

ENSEMBLE – Jets, Sharks, Jets Girls, Sharks Girls


“West Side Story” will be performed from July 24 through August 9, 2014

Curtain Times:  Tuesday through Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday @ 2:00 pm.

Single Tickets:  Adults $18                Students under18 - $12
