Rain Barrel and Backyard Composting Workshop - Duncansville

Rain Barrel and Backyard Composting Workshop

The Intermunicipal Relations Committee and the Blair Conservation District will be hosting a rain barrel and backyard composting workshop at the IRC R&D Recycling and Composting Facility located in Duncansville.  Registration is not required.  The workshop will be held at 6:00 p.m. on June 17.  Residents will learn about the benefits of rain water recycling and attendees of the workshop will be able to build their own rain barrel for $35.00.  Capturing rain water helps to reduce water pollution and soil erosion within our community while conserving a valuable natural resource.  Rain barrels are great for watering gardens during summer dry spells.   Attendees will also learn about how to build and implement a backyard composting program.  Backyard composting can reduce the volume of our trash while using kitchen and garden scraps to produce a rich soil additive for lawns and gardens.  Residents interested in the workshop can register with Jim Eckenrode at the Blair County Conservation District at 696-0877 ext 5 or via email at jeckenrode@blairconservationdistrict.org.
