ATLANTA FLIGHTS SET

University Park Airport will resume flights to Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport this summer. According to the Centre Daily Times, Delta will operate a direct flight on Saturdays this summer. Flights will begin on June 7th and travel weekly through August 30th. Reservations are already being accepted. The airline plans to use a 50-seat regional jet for the trips.


HISTORIC RESOURCE COMMISSION

The State College Borough Historic Resources Commission is scheduled to meet tonight at 7:30 in room 241 of the downtown municipal building. It is the first meeting of the calendar year. An election of new officers is scheduled. Additionally, the current Capital Improvement Program will be reviewed. 


PENN STATE PRESIDENT NAMED

62-year-old Eric Barron was officially hired as Penn State’s 18th university president yesterday. The former dean of the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences and Florida State President was formally approved by the University’s Board of Trustees. He received a five-year contract worth $800-thousand per year. Barron’s term officially begins on May 12th but he can step into office sooner. 

BRYCE JORDAN CENTER TO CLOSE

The Bryce Jordan Center will close over the summer for repairs. According to the Centre Daily Times, the 19-year-old venue will undergo floor and roof repairs. Officials anticipate closing the venue following graduation in May and reopening the facility for summer commencement August 16th. The Office of Physical Plant estimates the maintenance to cost around $4.5 million.
