Bear Attacks Woman

An 18-year-old Mill Hall woman is recovering from a black bear attack while deer hunting Monday afternoon in Porter Township. According to the Centre Daily Times, Camille Marie Bomboy was attacked by a large black bear, likely protecting three nearby cubs. The bear knocked Bomboy to the ground, biting her arms, shoulders and head, before being scared off by Bomboy’s stepfather. Bomboy was taken to Lock Haven Hospital before being transferred to Geisinger Medical Center in Danville for surgery. According to a report yesterday evening, she was listed in fair condition. 

Mayoral Race to be Decided Next Week

A recount of votes in the race for Port Matilda mayor will take place next Tuesday at 10:30 am. According to the Centre Daily times, Centre County President Judge Thomas ordered a recount. Multiple ballots with write-in candidates were submitted incorrectly, but will be counted in the recount. Incumbent Mayor Robert Wiser chose not to seek a second term after the official withdrawal deadline passed. Ida Lively and Bobbi Jo Hamer were the top two vote-getters on November 5th

Scoreboard Installation

Installation of new scoreboards at Beaver Stadium is underway. Curtin Road near the stadiums south endzone is closed through the end of January so a large crane can access the area. According to a Penn State release, the project likely won’t be completed until August. New high-definition boards will replace the current scoreboards at both the north and south ends of the stadium. Traffic on Park Avenue will not be affected.
