PENN STATE RUGBY SUSPENDED

Penn State’s men’s rugby team is under suspension after two team members were arrested for allegedly destroying the team’s equipment shed. Police say 22-year-old John Petri and 21-year-old Sean Robert Herbert used lighter fluid to ignite the on-campus shed causing more than $30,000 in damage on January 14th. Penn State announced the suspension on Friday afternoon. The team is currently unable to practice or compete and the university’s Student Conduct official is reviewing the case.


STATE COLLEGE HOTEL FIRE

Firefighters quickly extinguished a small fire at the Imperial Motor Inn located on South Atherton Street in downtown State College on Friday. The fire began in a dryer inside the hotel’s laundry room. According to the Centre County Report, no guests were affected. Smoke damage was limited to the laundry facility and nearby rooms.

STATE COLLEGE BUS DRIVER CHARGED

A Long Motor Buses driver in the State College Area School District is facing charges for sharing alcohol and sexually explicit material with children. According to the Centre Daily Times, 37-year-old Daisey Joe Hartley of Howard allegedly gave beer and wine coolers to two teens and a younger adolescent after having one of the teens drive her to buy the booze. Police say she also showed the minors a collection of sex toys and a pornographic video. Hartley is no longer driving for the district.

STATE COLLEGE ROADWORK

Old Boalsburg Road between Ellen Avenue and South Atherton Street in State College will be closed today and tomorrow between 7:30 am and 5 pm. Crews are repairing a sewer line in the 1200 block of Old Boalsburg Road. Any questions should be directed to the Public Works Department at 234-7135.
