ROADWORK IN STATE COLLEGE

Folks are being asked to use extreme caution while traveling through the 200 block of South Buckhout Street in State College. Public works crews are completing curb and sidewalk repairs between West Beaver Avenue and West Foster Avenue for the remainder of the week. Short delays are possible. Anyone with questions should contact the department at 234-7135.


WHIPPLE DAM CLEANUP DAY

Volunteers are needed for the Whipple Dam State Park annual Spring Clean-up Day. The event will take place on Saturday, April 26th from 9 am to 12 pm. It’s sponsored by the Friends of Greenwood Furnace, Whipple Dam and Penn-Roosevelt State Parks. Those interested should contact the Whipple Dam Store at 814-667-3778. Greenwood Furnace State Park will host its cleanup day on Saturday, April 19th. To register call the park office at 814-667-1800.

BELLEFONTE DELAYS PICKUP

With cooler than average temperatures, the Bellefonte Borough will continue ash pickups through the end of the month. According to a release, the borough will pick up ashes on Wednesdays until April 30th.

CENTRE COUNTY LIQUOR ENFORCEMENT

Three Centre County businesses were cited for failing to comply with Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board regulations during March. Police say Pizza Hut on Atherton Street and Beer Belly’s Beverage in State College both face fines for selling alcohol to a 20 year-old minor during a compliance check. Additionally, R.J.’s Pub in Philipsburg sold alcoholic beverages on February 20th despite an expired license.

                                                                                                 

 PATERNO OFF BALLOT

Jay Paterno’s name has been officially removed from the Democratic primary ballot for lieutenant governor of Pennsylvania. Paterno announced his withdrawal from the race late last week. According to the Centre Daily Times, the Commonwealth Court granted Paterno’s request yesterday. Five men remain in competition for the nomination.
