O’Brien

Bill O’Brien is expected to be officially introduced as the Houston Texans head coach today according to the Houston Chronicle. According to the Centre Daily Times defensive line coach Larry Johnson will serve as the interim coach and will maintain contact with current players and recruits. Penn State has formed a search committee and has developed a short list of candidates. Athletic Director Dave Joyner will meet with the media today at 11am. Turnpike Increase

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is reminding motorists that rates will increase on Sunday. Rates will increase by 12 percent for cash customers and 2 percent for E-ZPass customers. The new rates will take effect at 12:01am on Sunday. The Turnpike Commission hopes to increase E-ZPass enrollment because it’s less costly to process an electronic transaction.

Tractor Incident

Police are investigating an incident where an unknown suspect entered a tractor trailer parked at Bryce Alterio Trucking. According to wjac-tv, the suspect started a vehicle and caused the fan to break and put holes in the radiator. Once the vehicle was disabled, the suspect entered another tractor and stole it driving through Milesburg and causing damage to a yard. After striking a sign, the suspect fled on foot. Anyone with information is asked to contact state police. 

Tire Slashing

State Police in Philipsburg say someone is slashing tires on the 200 block of East Spruce Street in the borough. Police said a 45 year old female reported that someone slashed multiple vehicles over the last two years. Centre County Crimestoppers are offering a reward to anyone who has information that can lead to an arrest. 

Transportation Law

Expect to pay a little more at the pumps in Pennsylvania than a few other states. The new transportation law took effect yesterday which increased taxes on gasoline and diesel. A spokesman for the Department of Transportation said gasoline taxes increased by nine and a half cents while diesel taxes increased by almost 13 cents a gallon. Despite the tax increase AAA expects gas prices to drop slightly in 2014. The increases are part of the transporation bill passed by Governor Corbett that will hope to fund state bridges, highways and mass transit agency facilities.

Party Bust

11 people were charged with underage drinking on Wednesday morning after police busted a party in Huston Township. Police responded around 9:30 am to the 900 block of Skytop Mountain Road for a report of numerous people in rental apartments who were engaged in underage drinking. All 11 individuals were between the ages of 16 and 20.
