 With the NFL regular season officially over and several coaches expected to be fired over the next few days or weeks, Bill O’Brien’s name is once again being mentioned.

 ESPN’s Chris Mortenson reported yesterday that O’Brien is on multiple short lists for potential NFL coaching vacancies, but it would take the right job to lure the Penn State coach away from Happy Valley.

 Mortenson also reported that the teams who have expressed interest in O’Brien have been informed by a third party representative that when he accepted the job at Penn State, he was told by school officials that the Jerry Sandusky scandal was a criminal matter, and not an NCAA concern.

 Obrien’s agent Joe Linta told State College.com last night that no NFL team has contacted his client or Penn State. 

First Night

 A dazzling display of ice sculptures will be showcased and several performers will also entertain the crowd at First Night State College all day today and tonight.

 The highlight of the event for many is the 5k Resolution Run. The race will begin on East College Avenue at South Allen Street at 6:30 tonight. Prior to the race, parts of College Avenue will be restricted to one lane from South Garner Street to South Frazier Street from 6-630.

 College Avenue will be completely closed from South Garner Street to Locust lane from approximately 6:30-7:15. Traffic will be detoured south on South Garner Street and motorists may experience some delays. 

Dairy Cliff

Though all eyes are currently on the fiscal cliff and its impact on taxpayers and the federal government, another issue could bring an immediate impact to producers and consumers.

 The current farm bill is set to expire tomorrow and if a bill is not passed some of the country’s farm policies will go back to how they were in 1949.

 Pennsylvania Senator Robert Casey says milk prices would significantly increase if this happens. Casey also says not extending the bill could cost the federal government between 12 and 15 billion dollars per year.  

Penn State Altoona

 Letters were sent on Friday to former Penn State Altoona Students who are being warned that their social security numbers may have been compromised again.

 A server that contained a little over 1400 Social Security Numbers, all of which belonged to students enrolled at Penn State Altoona before 2005 was found to be infected with Malware.

 Previously, a computer virus created with malicious intent to steal information breached a Penn State Altoona computer in 2011. 

Teen Struck

 A 19 year old man was injured yesterday after he was struck by a train in McVeytown. According to the Centre Daily times, an emergency dispatcher confirmed the man was injured and flown to Penn State Hershey Medical Center for treatment, but no other details, including the man’s condition, were available.

 The train was operated by Norfolk Southern, which will conduct its own investigation of the accident.
