Integrity Officer.                                           1 25 13 
Penn State has hired an athletics integrity officer. Julie Del Giorno will work part time with the university starting in March and begin full time April 1. The university says Del Giorno's will be responsible for the development, implementation and oversight of policies and practices within the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics that ensure compliance and ethical conduct.

She will report to the university's chief compliance officer, a position that still needs to be filled by the university. Del Giorno is currently the Chief of Staff at Moravian College and Moravian Theological Seminary in Bethlehem. She also served as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army.  

Law Dean.
The dean of Penn State's Dickinson School of Law is leaving. The university announced yesterday that Phillip McConnaughay will take over as the dean of Peking University's School of Transnational Law in Shenzhen China in August.

McConnaughay also was a founding dean of the School of International Affairs at Penn State. It is not yet clear who will fill his position.

Accident

No one was seriously injured in a 3 car accident in Patton Township yesterday morning. The accident happened around 10:15 at the intersection of North Atherton Street and Buffalo Run Rd when Eric Myers of Philipsburg was traveling north bound on Atherton Street and turned into the path of Aaron Hofelt of Port Matilda who was traveling southbound.

After the initial collision, Myers 2007 Chevy truck collided with a dump truck driven by Timothy Tressler of Port Matilda that was stopped at the stop sign of Buffalo Run Rd. Police said 2 of the individuals were checked by EMS personnel on the scene but refused transport to the hospital. 

McAllister Building

The McAllister Building was evacuated around lunch time yesterday after a water line break. The rupture forced the shutdown of electricity in the building and significant damage to the first floor.

The building could re-open early today

Outdoor Show

Pennsylvania’s largest outdoors show is on hold. Reed Exhibitions announced yesterday that they are postponing the Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show that was set to begin on February 2 at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.

The postponement comes after several vendors planned to boycott the event due to organizers announcing a ban on the display of assault rifles and extended ammunition clips at the event.

There is no word on when the show will be rescheduled. An email was sent to ticket buyers yesterday promising refunds and said the process would be posted on the event’s website.      

Electronics Recycling

Pennsylvania’s new electronics recycling law took effect yesterday. The Pennsylvania Covered Device Recycling Act was passed in 2010 and as a result, Pennsylvania’s can no longer dispose of their old electronics like TV’s and computers in the trash because the items contain cadmium and mercury.

There are still several ongoing collection programs in every region of the state. County by county information on the programs are available on the Department of Environmental Protection website at DEP web dot state dot pa dot us.
