Yesterday’s snow storm that pounded
The State Corrections Department is asking for more funding. At a house budget hearing, Corrections Secretary John Wetzel said his department needs about 77 million dollars more next year due to personnel costs. He also says the department needs about 20 million dollars more this year to help cover a population that hasn’t shrunk as quickly as expected.
Recycling and Refuse
The heavy snowfall and dangerous road conditions suspended recycling and trash collection yesterday. Recycling not collected yesterday will be collected next Thursday on the normal collection schedule. State College Borough refuse customers on Sandpiper Driver and several additional at-door customers whose refuse wasn’t collected yesterday will have it collected by the borough crews today.
Comcast and Time Warner
The two largest cable providers could become one. Comcast confirmed yesterday that it has agreed to buy Time Warner Cable for 45 billion dollars a deal that would make the combined group the countries dominant provider of television channels and internet connections. Comcast outbid Charter Communications to acquire Time Warner Cable. According to CNN money, if the deal is approved, the provider could reach roughly one in three American homes.
