SANDUSKY SCANDAL

IN DAUPHIN COUNTY COURT YESTERDAY, THE JUDGE DID NOT DECIDE WHETHER TO DROP CHARGES AGAINST FORMER PENN STATE ADMINISTRATORS TIM CURLEY AND GARY SCHULTZ. DEFENSE ATTORNEYS SAY THE STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS HAS EXPIRED WHEN IT COMES TO THE FAILURE TO REPORT SUSPECTED ABUSE CHARGE…BUT THE PROSECUTION DISAGREES. THE DEFENSE CLAIMS THE PERJURY CHARGES DO NOT APPLY BECAUSE CURLEY AND SCHULTZ TESTIFIED TO THEIR PERSONAL CHARACTERIZATION ABOUT WHAT THEY WERE TOLD REGARDING THE 2001 SHOWER INCIDENT. THE DEFENSE IS ALSO ASKING THE JUDGE TO ORDER THE COMMONWEALTH TO TURN OVER ALL INVESTIGATORY NOTES IN THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE. THE JUDGE GAVE NO INDICATION AS TO WHEN HE WOULD RULE.NEITHER CURLEY NOR SCHULTZ ATTENDED YESTERDAY’S PRE-TRIAL HEARING.

THE FEDERAL INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO POSSIBLE CHILD PORNOGRAPHY INVOLVING JERRY SANDUSKY AND THE SECOND MILE FOUNDATION. GREG BUCCERONI OF PHILADELPHIA CLAIMS HE WAS REPEATEDLY ABUSED AS A YOUNG TEENAGER BY PHILADELPHIA BUSINESSMAN ED SAVITZ…AND BUCCERONI TELLS WJAC TV THAT ON 2 OCCASIONS WHILE HE WAS A YOUNG BOY, SAVITZ TOOK HIM TO CENTRE COUNTY TO MEET JERRY SANDUSKY. HE SAYS THE MEN TRADED PHOTOS OF YOUNG TEENS AND SANDUSKY OFFERED MONEY TO HAVE SEX WITH HIM, BUT THAT DIDN’T HAPPEN. BUCCERONI HAS SPOKED TO THE FBI AND A FEDERAL POSTAL INSPECTOR.

EXPERTS SAY PENN STATE’S OUSTED PRESIDENT GRAHAM SPANIER COULD STILL FACE CRIMINAL PROSECUTION IN THE JERRY SANDUSKY SCANDAL. FORMER FBI DIRECTOR LOUIS FREEH’S UNIVERSITY-COMMISSIONED REPORT ACCUSED SPANIER, FOOTBALL COACH JOE PATERNO, AND FORMER ADMINISTRATORS TIM CURLEY AND GARY SCHULTZ OF COVERING UP A 2001 ABUSE ALLEGATION AGAINST SANDUSKY. SPANIER REMAINS A TENURED FACULTY MEMBER AT PENN STATE, ALTHOUGH HE IS ON SABBATICAL UNTIL DECEMBER AND IT IS UNCLEAR WHETHER HE WILL RETURN.
