SANDUSKY IN COURT?

A HEARING ON THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE IS SCHEDULED FOR 10 THIS MORNING IN BELLEFONTE, BUT IT’S UNCERTAIN IF HE WILL ATTEND. STATE PROSECUTORS WANT A JUDGE TO APPROVE BRINGING IN A JURY FROM OUTSIDE CENTRE COUNTY, SAYING THAT'S THE ONLY WAY TO GET A FAIR AND IMPARTIAL JURY. THE STATE ALSO WANTS THE JUDGE TO RESTRICT SANDUSKY TO THE INSIDE OF HIS HOME AFTER PARENTS AND TEACHERS COMPLAINED THIS WEEK THAT HE'S BEEN SPOTTED ON HIS BACK PORCH WATCHING KIDS ON A PLAYGROUND. COURT OFFICIALS SAY 100 SEATS FOR THE PUBLIC WILL BE AVAILABLE STARTING AT 9:30 ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS.

CHARGES IN FATAL SHOOTING?

BLAIR COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY RICH CONSIGLIO TELLS THE ALTOONA MIRROR HIS OFFICE WON’T RUSH INTO DECIDING WHETHER AN ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP HOMEOWNER SHOULD BE CHARGED IN THE DEATH OF 24 YEAR OLD BRANDON ZETH OF ALTOONA. POLICE SAY ZETH WAS DRUNK, POUNDING ON THE BACK WINDOW OF TIMOTHY LEPORE’S HOUSE, AND DEMANDING ENTRANCE ON JANUARY 14TH. LEPORE SHOT HIM 5 TIMES AND ZETH DIED THIS WEEK AT A PITTSBURGH HOSPITAL. ZETH’S FATHER SAYS HE THOUGHT HE WAS HIS GIRLFRIEND’S HOUSE NEXT DOOR. AUTHORITIES ARE GATHERING INFORMATION AND GOING OVER HOSPITAL RECORDS.

GIRLFRIEND DIES OF METHADONE OVERDOSE

36 YEAR OLD AARON SANDAK OF JOHNSTOWN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH DRUG DELIVERY RESULTING IN DEATH AND INVOLUNTARY MANSLAUGHTER IN THE DEATH. HIS GIRLFRIEND, 29 YEAR OLD MEGAN PRUGH DIED IN AUGUST AFTER HE BROUGHT METHADONE TO HER HOSPITAL ROOM AT INDIANA REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER. SANDAK WAS APPREHENDED IN OCEAN CITY MARYLAND. HE HAS WAIVED EXTRADITION AND WILL BE BROUGHT BACK TO INDIANA COUNTY.

JOHNSTOWN MAN SHOT DURING BURGLARY

AUTHORITIES ARE TRYING TO PIECE TOGETHER THE DETAILS ABOUT HOW 27 YEAR OLD CLINTON EDWARDS OF JOHNSTOWN WAS SHOT DURING A BURGLARY ATTEMPT IN CHERRYHILL TOWNSHIP, INDIANA COUNTY, EARLY WEDNESDAYAND THEN BURGLARIZED A HOME IN ARMSTRONG COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY EDWARDS CONFRONTED THE HOMEOWNER WITH A GUN…THEY STRUGGLED…AND IT FIRED INTO THE AIR.
THE RESIDENT THEN SHOT EDWARDS IN THE THIGH AND SHOULDER. EDWARDS’ GIRLFRIEND DROPPED HIM OFF IN THE PARKING LOT OF A NEARBY STORE.
INVESTIGATORS AREN’T SURE HOW HE ENDED UP IN KITTANING AND BROKE INTO ANOTHER HOME. EDWARDS WAS ALREADY WANTED ON A PROBATION VIOLATION.

GUNMAN PLEADS GUILTY

IN CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT YESTERDAY, COLIN PATTERSON OF JOHNSTOWN PLEADED GUILTY TO ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE AND THEFT CHARGES. POLICE SAY PATTERSON ENTERED THE JOHNSTOWN HOME OF JOHN ANDREWS NEARLY 2 YEARS AGO…SHOT ANDREWS IN THE LEG 4 TIMES…THEN STOLE A SAFE, WHICH TURNED OUT TO ONLY CONTAIN VEHICLE REGISTRATION DOCUMENTS. PATTERSON WILL FACE UP TO 40 YEARS IN JAIL WHEN HE’S SENTENCED IN APRIL.

BABY’S BONES BROKEN

STATE POLICE IN CAMBRIA COUNTY SAY 21 YEAR OLD MATTHEW WENDEL OF PORTAGE IS JAILED AND CHARGED WITH THROWING A 3 MONTH OLD BABY ONTO A BED…SO HARD SHE SUFFERED SEVERAL BROKEN BONES AND FRACTURED RIBS. THE BABY WAS TAKEN TO PITTSBURGH’S CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL.  WENDEL TOLD POLICE HE COULDN’T GET THE BABY TO STOP CRYING AND HE “FREAKED OUT.” BAIL IS SET AT 40-THOUSAND DOLLARS.

CAMBRIA COUNTY MAN FACING RAPE & OTHER CHARGES

40 YEAR OLD STEVEN FISHER OF PATTON IS IN THE CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON ON RAPE AND OTHER CHARGES. HIS WIFE CLAIMS SHE HAD A PROTECTION FROM ABUSE ORDER AGAINST HIM AND HE DEMANDED SHE TALK WITH HIM TUESDAY NIGHT. FISHER ALLEGEDLY THREW KNIVES INTO THE WALLS AND THREATENED TO KILL HIMSELF, HIS WIFE, AND THEIR 2 CHILDREN… THEN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED THE WOMAN. WHEN TROOPERS WENT TO THE HOME, THEY FOUND A POSSIBLE METH LAB.

TIME SERVED IN HOUSE BOMBING

A FEDERAL JUDGE IN JOHNSTOWN YESTERDAY SENTENCED DANIEL SWARTZ OF ALTOONA TO TIME SERVED. HE WAS FACING AT LEAST 30 YEARS AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO TOSSING A PIPE BOMB INTO A HOLLIDAYSBURG HOME IN 2005. SWARTZ HAS DONE 51 MONTHS BEHIND BARS. RONALD NEELEY OF DUNCANSVILLE IS FACING A MINIMUM OF 2 TO 3 YEARS WHEN HE’S SENTENCED. HE PLEADED GUILTY TO POSSESSING AN UNREGISTERED DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE. HIS GIRLFRIEND WAS ONE OF 6 PEOPLE INSIDE THE HOUSE, BUT NO ONE WAS INJURED. MARK BURGER…WHO HAS DIABETES AND IS ON DIALYSIS…WAS SENTENCED TO 18 MONTHS IN A FEDERAL PRISON.

LOCAL BISHOP SAYS NO WAY

BISHOP MARK BARTCHAK OF THE ALTOONA/JOHNSTOWN CATHOLIC DIOCESE IS SPEAKING OUT AGAINST A PLAN TO FORCE THE CHURCH TO PROVIDE BIRTH CONTROL TO SOME OF ITS EMPLOYEES. IN THE UPCOMING ISSUE OF “THE CATHOLIC REGISTER”, BARTCHAK CALLS THE PRESIDENT’S HEALTH CARE PLAN AN ATTACK ON THE FIRST AMENDMENT. HE ADDS --  QUOTE – “WE CANNOT AND WILL NOT COMPLY WITH THIS UNJUST LAW.” DIOCESE SPOKESPERSON TONY DEGOL SAYS THAT IS A CLEAR VIOLATION OF RELIGIOUS FREEDOM.
