DONATIONS TO THE GO-FUND-ME WEBSITE HAVE TOPPED 12-THOUSAND DOLLARS FOR THE FAMILY OF THE 2 LITTLE GIRLS KILLED IN A FREAK ACCIDENT IN SOMERSET COUNTY MONDAY. THE MOTHER OF 8 YEAR OLD RYLEIGH AND 6 YEAR OLD MIKAYLA FRIEWALD, Ashley Lichty IS STILL RECOVERING FROM HIP INJURIES SUFFERED WHEN A TREE FELL ONTO THEIR MOVING CAR. LICHTY IS ABOUT 8 MONTHS PREGNANT AND THE BABY IS SAID TO BE DOING OK. THE DRIVER, Jason Himebaugh, sustained a concussion and other injuries. An account also has been set up through 1st Summit Bank to help the family AND DONATIONS WILL BE COLLECTED WITH PLASTIC JUGS THIS WEEKEND AT Thunder in the Valley.

A benefit run will be held TOMORROW to help raise money for Trooper Brad Wilson WHO was critically injured after being shot twice in the neck while attempting to serve a warrant at a house in Jefferson County LAST YEAR. REGISTRATION STARTS AT 10AM AT THE BROCKWAY SONS OF ITALY AND ALL STREET LEGAL VEHICLES ARE WELCOME. THE RUN WILL END AT THE DUBOIS VFW. WILSON RETURNED TO THE AREA THIS WEEK TO CONTINUE HIS RECOVERY.

THE ALTOONA Fire MARSHAL SAYS 3 children playing with a lighter caused a garage fire Thursday afternoon at 16-06 20th AveNUE. The BLAZE BROKT OUT on an upper floor of the BUILDING. No injuries were reported, but the garage HAD minor damage.

 

A date has been set for the RE-TRIAL of convicted KILLER Paul AARON ROSS OF HOLLIDAYSBURG WHO IS SERVING A LIFE SENTENCE FOR THE 2004 MURDER OF TINA MILLER AT CANOE CREEK STATE PARK. Jury selection will begin in October. The STATE Superior Court ruled THAT Ross deserves a new trial because the defense did not have enough time to prepare and SOME testimony should not have been admissible.

ALTOONA DEFENSE ATTORNEY TOM DICKEY HAS BEEN HIRED TO REPRESENT 25 YEAR OLD KYLE RODGERS OF THE JOHNSTOWN AREA WHO IS ACCUSED OF fatally shooting his live-in girlfriend in May. Rodgers CLAIMS 20-year-old Linsey Wolfe WAS KILLED WHEN HIS GUN ACCIDENTALLY WENT OFF during a dispute in their Bloom Street apartment. A preliminary hearing has been rescheduled for AugUST 6TH.

ALTOONA Police are SEARCHing for 30 YEAR OLD JASON EMMETT OF BEAVER COUNTY WHO IS ACCUSED OF TRYING TO STEAL DRUGS FROM THE CVS PHARMACY ON PLANK ROAD BACK ON MAY 21ST. HE FLASHED A GUN AT EMPLOYEES AND WAS IDENTIFIED THROUGH FINGERPRINTS LEFT AT THE SCENE. EMMETT may be driving a black 2006 Lexus GS 300 sedan or a light colored Nissan Sentra WHICH WAS a rental. Anyone with information about Emmett’s whereabouts SHOULD CALL Police at 940-59-52 or send the department a private message on their Facebook page.

POLICE IN THE STATE COLLEGE AREA ARE LOOKING FOR A missing WOMAN. FAMILY MEMBERS SAY THEY LAST SPOKE TO 48 YEAR OLD Jennifer Shadle ON MAY 15TH AND SHE WAS LAST SEEN AT THE NORTH ATHERTON STREET WALMART. SHADLE IS about 5 feet 4 inches tall and 112 pounds WITH BROWN HAIR. Anyone with information is asked to call 237-11-72.

 

GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT “NEVER CONDEMNED” JOE PATERNO FOR HIS ACTIONS REGARDING THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE…AND “NEVER WILL.” THAT’S WHAT CORBETT TOLD THE ASSOCIATED PRESS IN AN INTERVIEW YESTERDAY. HE ALSO SAID HE REGRETS THAT PENN STATE FIRED THE COACH OVER THE PHONE RATHER THAN IN PERSON. CORBETT CLAIMS HE DOESN’T BELIEVE THAT HIS RESPONSE TO THE SANDUSKY SCANDAL HAS HURT HIM POLITICALLY.

 

Penn State ATHLETIC DIRECTOR DAVE JOYNER IS RETIRING AUGUST 1ST…AND University OFFICIALS YESTERDAY released ThE NAMES OF THE 6 committee members who will help search for HIS REPLACEMENT. THEY INCLUDE President Eric Barron AND WOMEN’S BASKETBALL COACH COQUESE WASHINGTON. The committee will work with Collegiate Sports Associates, a nationwide search and consulting firm.

The ALTOONA-JOHNSTOWN Roman Catholic Diocese Is PLANNING TO SELL THE FRANKSTOWN TOWNSHIP RESIDENCE OF Bishop Mark Bartchak AND HE WILL MOVE INTO the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament’s rectory in downtown Altoona. DIOCESE SPOKESMAN TONY DEGOL SAYS Proceeds from the sale will be used for pastoral needs in the diocese AND Some of the money also will be used for victims in sexual misconduct cases. THE SALE SHOULD BE COMPLETED THIS SUMMER.

JUNE IS DAIRY MONTH…AND The Blair County Chamber of Commerce will host Dairy Day Today in front of the Courthouse in Hollidaysburg. The Chamber’s Farm-City Committee will serve free Ritchey’s Dairy ice cream sundaes STARTING AT noon.  Dairy Day is open to the general public.
