SANDUSKY’S TRIAL BUMPED TO JUNE

JUDGE JOHN CLELAND SAYS THE JERRY SANDUSKY TRIAL HAS BEEN PUSHED BACK FROM MAY 15TH TO JUNE 5TH TO HANDLE VARIOUS LOGISTICAL ISSUES.
MEANWHILE, PROSECUTORS ARE ASKING THE COURT TO DENY SANDUSKY’S REQUEST THAT ALL CHARGES BE DROPPED. FATAL CRASH IN CENTRE COUNTY

A SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT MAN WAS KILLED EARLY YESTERDAY MORNING WHEN HIS PICKUP COLLIDED WITH A TRACTOR TRAILER HAULING LOGS ALONG ROUTE 150 IN HOWARD TOWNSHIP, CENTRE COUNTY. POLICE SAY 43 YEAR OLD RUSSELL LONG RAN A STOP SIGN COMING OUT OF BALD EAGLE STATE PARK. HE WAS PRONOUNCED DEAD ON THE SCENE. THE LOG TRUCK DRIVER HAD ONLY MINOR INJURIES.

KILLER’S SENTENCE STANDS

THE STATE SUPERIOR COURT YESTERDAY UPHELD THE LIFE PLUS 20-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR RONALD HEICHEL OF BELLEFONTE…CONVICTED OF FIRST DEGREE MURDER FOR THE 2009 SHOOTING DEATH OF SAMUEL BOOB AT BOOB’S HOME IN POTTER TOWNSHIP. THE COURT PREVIOUSLY AFFIRMED A SIMILAR SENTENCE FOR BOOB’S WIFE, MIRINDA, WHO CONSPIRED WITH HEICHEL TO KILL THE MAN.

PENN STATE ALTOONA SORORITY SUSPENDED

THE ALTOONA MIRROR REPORTS THAT PENN STATE ALTOONA HAS SUSPENDED THE GAMMA PHI BETA SORORITY FOLLOWING A FIGHT LAST WEEKEND. POLICE SAY SEVERAL MEMBERS ALLEGEDLY BEAT A VISITOR UNCONSCIOUS WHEN THEY ARGUED OVER A STOLEN BOTTLE OF VODKA DURING A PARTY AT THE NITTANY POINTE APARTMENTS. 20 YEAR OLD BROOKE NOLAN OF PHILADELPHIA AND 22 YEAR OLD ANGELA KIM OF VIRGINIA ARE CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND OTHER OFFENSES WITH PRELIMINARY HEARINGS SCHEDULED APRIL 12TH. OTHERS COULD ALSO FACE CHARGES. THE VICTIM SUFFERED A CONCUSSION.

ANOTHER DRUG ARREST

FOLLOWING LAST WEEKEND’S DRUG RAID, ALTOONA POLICE HAVE NOW ARRESTED SERENA KIFER OF WILLIAMSBURG. LAST SATURDAY, OFFICERS STOPPED A CAR IN ALTOONA AND FOUND ABOUT 120-THOUSAND-DOLLARS WORTH OF HEROIN. THEY ARRESTED MICHAEL CALDERWOOD, CREIG SHULTZ AND KOURTNEY THOMAS FOR RUNNING WHAT THEY CALL A “LARGE SCALE HEROIN AND MARIJUANA RING.”
YESTERDAY POLICE SEARCHED THE HOME CALDERWOOD SHARES WITH KIFER AND SEIZED 19-THOUSAND-DOLLARS WORTH OF POT AND 1-THOUSAND-DOLLARS WORTH OF METHADONE PILLS.

FIRE UNDER INVESTIGATION

DAMAGE IS ESTIMATED AT 375-THOUSAND DOLLARS AFTER FIRE DESTROYED THE HOME OF MICHAEL MCCRACKEN ON MAIN STREET IN BELLWOOD LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THE CAUSE OF THE BLAZE REMAINS UNDETERMINED AS A STATE POLICE FIRE MARSHAL INVESTIGATES. MCCRACKEN ESCAPED WITHOUT INJURY, BUT ONE OF HIS CATS DIED.
