SEVERAL CRASHES…ONE FATAL
ANOTHER deadly A-T-v CRASH IN THE AREA THIS WEEKEND. STATE POLICE IN CAMBRIA COUNTY SAY 23 YEAR OLD PAUL TAYLOR OF MINERAL POINT WAS KILLED SATURDAY NIGHT WHEN HE LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE AND FELL OVER A BRIDGE ALONG AN ABANDONED RAILWAY NEAR WILLIAMS RUN CREEK IN CAMBRIA TOWNSHIP. TAYLOR’S PASSENGER, 22 YEAR OLD BRIANNA FOX OF JOHNSTOWN SUFFERED MODERATE injurIeS AND WAS taken to JOHNTOWN’S Conemaugh Hospital. neither Taylor, nor Fox wAS wearing a helmet.
A CAMBRIA COUNTY COUPLE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN A MOTORCYCLE WRECK SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN EAST FREEDOM, BLAIR COUNTY. 49 YEAR OLD DAVID POLLINO LOST CONTROL OF HIS SPEEDING BIKE ON JOHNSTOWN ROAD AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH. POLLINO IS IN SERIOUS BUT STABLE CONDITION AT ALTOONA REGIONAL TRAUMA CENTER, WHILE HIS PASSENGER, 40 YEAR OLD KIMBERLY HULINA IS LISTED IN FAIR CONDITION. NEITHER WAS WEARING A HELMET.
WILLIAM CLARK THE 3RD of virginia was flown to a local hospital after CRASHing HIS MOTORCYCLE sunday afternoon IN CLEARFIELD COUNTY. police say clark WAS RIDING ON ROUTE 219 IN BURNSIDE TOWNSHIP when HE HIT A GUARDRAIL ON A TURN AND WAS THROWN OFF.
A COUCH fire THAT CAUSED SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO AN APARTMENT ON WAUPELANI DRIVE in STATE COLLEGE REMAINS UNDER INVESTIGATION. THE BLAZE BROKE OUT ON THE FIRST FLOOR AT The Imperial Towers apartments SUNDAY AFTERNOON. THE flames SPREAD Up the wall AND The building was BRIEFLY evacuated. No one was injured and police say besides the heavy smoke, damage to the building is minimal.
A BEDFORD COUNTY CABIN IS BELIEVED TO BE A TOTAL LOSS AFTER A FIRE ABOUT 4AM SUNDAY. THE BLAZE BROKE OUT ALONG BIG CREEK ROAD IN MANN TOWNSHIP AND ONE FIREFIGHTER WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL FOR APPARENT HEAT EXJAUSTION. A STATE POLICE fire marshal Is investigating.
$17,000 WORTH OF HEROIN
JOHNSTOWN POLICE FOUND More than 17-THOUSAND DOLLARS worth of heroin inside aN apartment AT BUILDING 50 OF THE OAKHURST HOMES ON SATURDAY. JACOB MCDONALD OF PITTSBURGH WAS TAKEN TO JAIL AFTER HE could not give proper identification. COPS were initially called to building 50 for a burglary next door to where McDonald was staying. HE WAS ALSO CARRYING 28-HUNDRED DOLLARS in cash AND McDonald IS CURRENTLY out on bAIL for a drug charge out of Maryland.

Reports of suspected child abuse rose 9 percent last year in Pennsylvania, reaching the highest number since the state began collecting such reports a decade ago. In 2012, ChildLine, Pennsylvania’s child abuse hotline, registered 26-THOUSAND-664 reports of suspected abuse or neglect…an increase of 22-HUNDRED-86 from the previous year. HOWEVER, The percentage of child abuse reports that were substantiated fell slightly – from 14 percent in 2011 to 13-POINT-4 percent LAST YEAR, according to a newly released annual report by the state Department of Public Welfare.
TAX HIKE IN ST. COLLEGE
The State College School BOARD HOLDS A PUBLIC MEETING TONIGHT SO THE PUBLIC CAN COMMENT ON THE budget PROPOSAL. IT TOTALS 119 MILLION DOLLARS AND CALLS FOR A 2-POINT-7 PERCENT REAL ESTATE TAX HIKE. AS A COST-CUTTING MEASURE, the district PLANS TO only replace about half of the 58 vacant positions. TONIGHT’S SESSION IS AT 7 IN THE HIGH SCHOOL SOUTH BUILDING AUDITORIUM. FINAL BUDGET ADOPTION is scheduled NEXT MONDAY.
Altoona bridge work
PennDOT says work begins this week on a preservation project on 4 bridges across Blair County. first in line are the 7th and 8th Street Bridges in Altoona and traffic will be reduced to a single lane controlled by flaggers and signage. The epoxy overlay work is anticipated to begin on June 17th. Once work is completed on those 2 bridges, the contractor will place an epoxy overlay on the bridge deck on Route 865 over Main Street in Bellwood Boro as well as Frankstown Road over I-99 in Logan Township. All work will be completed by October.
