INMATE CHARGED WITH HOMICIDE

WHEN CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON GUARDS CAME TO THE CELL SHARED BY WILLIAM SHERRY AND WILLIAM CRAMER SATURDAY NIGHT…CRAMER REPORTEDLY SAID “NO SENSE CHECKING HIM, HE’S DEAD. HERE GOES THE REST OF MY LIFE, I'M ONLY 21.” AUTHORITIES HAVE NOW CHARGED CRAMER WITH HOMICIDE FOR STRANGLING SHERRY WITH A BEDSHEET, THEN TRYING TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE A SUICIDE. CRAMER HAD BEEN AT THE COUNTY JAIL FOR A FEW DAYS TO ATTEND A COURT HEARING. HE WAS ACCUSED OF ASSAULTING GUARDS WHEN HE WAS AN INMATE AT S.C.I CRESSON. SHERRY HAD BEEN IN JAIL FOR 2 DAYS ON A PROBATION VIOLATION.

ONE SHOOTING SUSPECT CONFESSES

JOHNSTOWN POLICE SAY 24 YEAR OLD MATTHEW GREENE IS IN THE CAMBRIA COUNTY PRISON AFTER ADMITTING THAT HE AND JOSEPH THORNTON ROBBED AND SHOT A CAB DRIVER IN THE WEST END LATE SUNDAY NIGHT.GREENE’S BAIL IS SET AT 100-THOUSAND DOLLARS CASH…AND THORNTON IS STILL AT LARGE.

SANDUSKY SCANDAL

THE NCAA HAS ORDERED PENN STATE HAS TO PAY 60 MILLION DOLLARS IN FINES FOR THE JERRY SANDUSKY SCANDAL AND A GROUP OF DISTRICT ATTORNEYS FROM ACROSS THE STATE MET IN STATE COLLEGE YESTERDAY. THEY ANNOUNCED THAT THE MONEY SHOULD GO TO FUND CHILDREN ADVOCACY CENTERS STATEWIDE. THOSE FACILITIES ALLOW VICTIMS OF CHILD ABUSE TO RECEIVE COUNSELING SERVICES AND TALK ABOUT THE ABUSE. IN OUR AREA, JEFFERSON COUNTY IS THE ONLY COUNTY THAT HAS A CHILD ADVOCACY CENTER.

IN THE WAKE OF THE JERRY SANDUSKY SCANDAL, PENN STATE WILL SOON PERFORM BACKGROUND CHECKS ON ALL POTENTIAL NEW HIRES. THE NEW POLICY APPLIES TO ALL NEW HIRES, REGARDLESS OF WHETHER THE PERSON WOULD WORK AROUND CHILDREN. IT ALSO COVERS THIRD-PARTY CONTRACTORS…VOLUNTEERS WHO WORK WITH CHILDREN…AND STUDENTS WHO HAVE WAGE PAYROLL JOBS, GRADUATE ASSISTANTS, VISITING SCHOLARS AND ADJUNCT FACULTY.

ACCUSED MOLESTER’S HUSBAND ARRESTED TOO

TABATHA PARTSCH OF CLAYSBURG IS ACCUSED OF BEING A SERIAL CHILD MOLESTER. PREVIOUSLY, HER HUSBAND PATRICK SAID SHE WAS INNOCENT AND HE TOLD THE ALTOONA MIRROR HE WOULD STAY WITH HER THROUGH THICK AND THIN. THIS WEEK, HE TOLD THE PAPER HE HAD REALIZED HIS WIFE’S GUILT AND PLANNED TO DIVORCE HER. NOW, PATRICK PARTSCH IS CHARGED HIMSELF WITH AGGRAVATED INDECENT ASSAULT OF A CHILD UNDER THE AGE OF 13. POLICE HAVE ALSO CHARGED TABATHA WITH ASSAULTING THAT CHILD. BOTH ARE NOW IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON.

4 INJURED

4 PEOPLE WERE INJURED IN A CRASH LAST NIGHT IN HUNTINGDON COUNTY. STATE POLICE SAY IT HAPPENED ON STANDING STONE ROAD NEAR MCMURTRY’S TAVERN IN MILLER TOWNSHIP. ONE PERSON WAS FLOWN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH A HEAD INJURY. THE OTHERS WERE TAKEN BY AMBULANCE TO J-C BLAIR MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. NO WORD ON THEIR CONDITIONS.

CONSTRUCTION WORKER FALLS AT PENN STATE

A CONSTRUCTION WORKER WAS INJURED WEDNESDAY MORNING WHEN HE FELL AT THE PEGULA ICE ARENA SITE AT PENN STATE. THE MAN…WHO WAS DOING IRON WORK…WAS TAKEN TO MOUTH NITTANY MEDICAL CENTER FOR TREATMENT AND THERE’S NO WORD ON HIS CONDITION. AN INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO THE CAUSE OF THE ACCIDENT.

NEW MOM WAIVES PRELIMINARY HEARING

CARLA MURPHY OF ALTOONA WAIVED HER PRELIMINARY HEARING YESTERDAY ON CHARGES OF SMOKING BATH SALTS DAYS AFTER GIVING BIRTH IN JUNE…THEN STRIPPING NAKED AND ASSAULTING NURSES AND HOSPITAL POLICE AT ALTOONA REGIONAL HEALTH SYSTEM. WHEN CHILDREN AND YOUTH SERVICES INSPECTED THE HOME MURPHY SHARES WITH MICHAEL STEWART, THEY FOUND DRUG PARAPHERNALIA. STEWART PLEADED GUILTY TO DISORDERLY CONDUCT AND HE IS TAKING CARE OF THE COUPLE’S BABY. MURPHY…WHO HAS A HISTORY OF DRUG-RELATED CRIMES…REMAINS IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON.

ACT 47 MEETING NEXT MONTH

ALTOONA CITY COUNCIL VOTED EARLIER THIS YEAR TO BECOME A FINANCIALLY-DISTRESSED CITY THROUGH THE STATE’S ACT 47 PROGRAM…AND A REPRESENTATIVE FOR THE STATE TOLD MEMBERS LAST NIGHT THAT THE TEAM HAS BEEN GOING THROUGH REAMS OF INFORMATION AND TALKING TO PUBLIC OFFICIALS TO HELP COME UP WITH WAYS TO FIX ALTOONA’S MONEY PROBLEMS. ONE OF THE NEXT STEPS IS TO HEAR FROM CITY RESIDENTS AND A PUBLIC MEETING WILL BE SCHEDULED SEPTEMBER 15TH. THE LOCATION HAS NOT YET BEEN DECIDED BECAUSE THEY ARE LOOKING FOR A PLACE WITH ROOM TO HOLD A LOT OF PEOPLE.

WEST NILE SPRAYING IN CENTRE COUNTY

IN COOPERATION WITH PENN STATE, THE CENTRE COUNTY WEST NILE VIRUS PROGRAM WILL BE DOING MOSQUITO SPRAYING AT THE AG PROGRESS DAYS FACILITY IN FERGUSON TOWNSHIP THIS EVENING. RECENTLY 3 POSITIVE MOSQUITO SAMPLES HAVE BEEN COLLECTED IN THAT AREA. THE TREATMENT WILL BE CONDUCTED WITH TRUCK MOUNTED EQUIPMENT. AND THE RAIN DATE IS MONDAY.

THE CITY OF ALTOONA RECEIVED A LETTER SAYING THE CHANGE IN OWNERSHIP DOES NOT AFFECT THE MANAGEMENT OR OPERATIONS OF CABLE SYSTEMS AND RATES AND SERVICES WILL NOT CHANGE. ATLANTIC BROADBAND SERVES ABOUT 108-THOUSAND CUSTOMERS IN OUR AREA AND IS THE 14TH LARGEST CABLE TV SYSTEM OPERATOR IN THE U-S.

RANDY TRAVIS TICKET SALES ON HOLD

THE CONCERT WAS FIRST SCHEDULED FOR TUSSEY MOUNTAIN AMPHITHEATER IN JULY, BUT IT WAS RAINED OUT.
