SANDUSKY SCANDAL

THE FINAL PRE-TRIAL HEARING IN THE JERRY SANDUSKY CASE WAS HELD YESTERDAY AND HIS DEFENSE ATTORNEY ARGUED THAT IF THE PROSECUTION CANNOT PRESENT ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE, THE ACASES OF ALLEGED VICTIMS 2, 6 AND 8 SHOULD BE THROWN OUT. VICTIM 8 CLAIMS SANDUSKY MOLESTED HIM IN A PENN STATE SHOWER IN 2000, BUT THE JANITOR WHO CLAIMS HE WITNESSED THE INCIDENT HAS DEMENTIA AND IS UNABLE TO TESTIFY. THE JUDGE WILL RULE ON THAT MOTION AT A LATER DATE. HE DID REFUSE TO DELAY JURY SELECTION WHICH WILL BEGIN TUESDAY.

TEACHER’S TRIAL

JURY SELECTION IS SCHEDULED TO BEGIN TODAY FOR THE CAMBRIA COUNTY TRIAL OF FORMER JOHNSTOWN MIDDLE SCHOOL TEACHER JASON LOBOI. THE 36 YEAR OLD IS CHARGED WITH SEXUALLY ABUSING A GIRL BETWEEN JANUARY OF 2009 AND APRIL OF LAST YEAR. AUTHORITIES SAY THE GIRL WAS NOT ONE OF LOBOI’S STUDENTS.

FLASHER & ASSAULT SUSPECT TESTIFIES

IN CENTRE COUNTY COURT THIS MORNING, CLOSING ARGUMENTS BEGIN IN THE TRIAL OF RYAN HO OF STATE COLLEGE WHO IS ACCUSED OF BREAKING INTO HOMES, APARTMENTS, AND PENN STATE DORM ROOMS STARTING IN 2009…THEN EXPOSING AND TOUCHING HIMSELF AND GROPING SOME WOMEN. HO TESTIFIED WEDNESDAY AND SAID HE ONLY ADMITTED TO THE CRIMES BECAUSE OF HIS UPBRINGING IN TAIWAN, HIS POOR GRASP OF ENGLISH, AND PRESSURE FROM LOCAL POLICE. HIS DEFENSE ATTORNEY TOLD THE JURY THERE ARE NO FINGER PRINTS CONNECTING HO TO THE CRIME SCENES, BUT THE PROSECUTION SAYS POLICE HAVE THE SNEAKERS AND SKI MASKS THAT HO WORE THE NIGHT THAT HE WAS ARRESTED IN MAY OF LAST YEAR. D-N-A ALSO LINKS HIM TO ONE INCIDENT.

BLAIR COUNTY CHILD PORN ARREST

F-B-I AGENTS AND BLAIR COUNTY AUTHORITIES ARRESTED 37 YEAR OLD TODD DETEMPLE EARLY WEDNESDAY AT THE HOME WHERE HE WAS STAYING IN NEWRY. FOLLOWING AN INVESTIGATION THAT BEGAN IN SAN FRANCISCO, DETEMPLE IS NOW CHARGED WITH POSSESSING AND MANUFACTURING CHILD PORN. POLICE SAY HE TOOK EXPLICIT PHOTOS OF A 4 YEAR OLD GIRL AND SENT THEM TO DYLAN ZARA OF SANTA ROSA CALIFORNIA. HE IS CURRENTLY SERVING 16 YEARS FOR MOLESTING A 6 YEAR OLD GIRL. DETEMPLE’S CASH BAIL IS 75-THOUSAND DOLLARS AND A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED TUESDAY.

ADULTS PASSED OUT/KIDS LIVING IN FILTH

JUST BEFORE 1AM YESTERDAY, ALTOONA POLICE CHECKED ON THE WELFARE OF 5 YOUNG CHILDREN AT A HOME AT 526 4TH AVENUE. THEY FOUND DOG WASTE AND A MESS THROUGHOUT THE HOUSE…AND ASHLEY BOYLES AND ROBERT POPE WERE PASSED OUT WITH EVIDENCE OF ALCOHOL USE AND POSSIBLE DRUG ABUSE NEARBY. POPE IS CHARGED WITH RESISTING ARREST AND INTERFERING WITH POLICE. ASHLEY BOYLES FACES 5 COUNTS OF ENDANGERING THE WELFARE OF HER CHILDREN WHO ARE BETWEEN THE AGES OF 3 AND 8. PRELIMINARY HEARINGS ARE SCHEDULED WEDNESDAY. THE CHILDREN WERE RELEASED INTO THE CUSTODY OF A FAMILY FRIEND.

FOOTBALL PLAYER HOPES RECORD IS EXPUNGED

PENN STATE WIDE RECEIVER DAYVON SMITH WAIVED HIS PRELIMINARY HEARING YESTERDAY IN CENTRE COUNTY COURT AND ASKED THE JUDGE TO ALLOW HIM TO ENTER THE ACCELERATED REHABILITATIVE DISPOSITION OR ARD PROGRAM IN HOPES OF GETTING HIS RECORD WIPED CLEAN. POLICE SAY THEY FOUND MARIJUANA AND DRUG PARAPHERNALIA IN SMITH’S APARTMENT IN MID-MARCH. SMITH WOULD ALSO HAVE TO GET DRUG TREATMENT AND DO COMMUNITY SERVICE.

MINI-BIKE WRECK IN ALTOONA

ALTOONA POLICE SAY A 19 YEAR OLD MAN SUFFERED BROKEN BONES AND A CONCUSSION LAST NIGHT WHEN HE RODE A MINI-BIKE INTO THE PATH OF A CAR ON THE 15-HUNDRED BLOCK OF 10TH STREET. THE DRIVER WAS NOT HURT.

LOWER ELECTRICITY BILLS

PENELEC SAYS THE AVERAGE CUSTOMER’S MONTHLY BILL WILL DROP 7-POINT-2 PERCENT THROUGH AUGUST 31ST. SPOKESMAN SCOTT SURGEONER OF FIRST ENERGY CORPORATION, PENELEC’S PARENT COMPANY, SAYS THE AVERAGE BILL WILL GO FROM $103.89 TO $96.37. THE RATES ARE EFFECTIVE THROUGH AUGUST 31ST.
