VICTIM DIES DESPITE CPR

A MAN DIED AFTER AN INCIDENT LAST NIGHT IN WILLIAMSBURG, BLAIR COUNTY. WTAJ REPORTS HE APPARENTLY HAD A MEDICAL PROBLEM SO HE PULLED OVER ALONG YELLOW SPRINGS ROAD. PEOPLE IN THE AREA PERFORMED C-P-R, BUT THE VICTIM DID NOT SURVIVE. ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER HE PULLED OVER, THE MAN’S VAN CAUGHT FIRE. AUTHORITIES ARE STILL INVESTIGATING.

MAN INJURED

BARRY WEAVERLING OF HUNTINGDON was flown to GEISINGER MEDICAL CENTER ABOUT 9 LAST NIGHT after crashing his truck into 2 PARKED cars and then a house’S FRONT PORCH IN JACKSON TOWNSHIP, HUNTINGDON COUNTY. It happened at the intersection of Route 26 and Greenwood Road. STATE POLICE SAY CHARGES ARE PENDING. no one IN the HOUSE was hurt.

HEARING POSTPONED FOR ACCUSED KILLER

THE PRELIMNARY HEARING FOR 20 YEAR OLD HUGO BAEZ HAS BEEN CONTINUED UNTIL DECEMBER 6TH. HE’S ACCUSED OF SHOOTING AND KILLING 22 YEAR OLD WILLIE SOLOMON  INSIDE CHOICE’S BOTTLE CLUB ON EAST 6TH AVENUE IN ALTOONA LAST WEEK. BAEZ’ ATTORNEY, TOM DICKEY, SAYS HE BELIEVES THIS MAY HAVE BEEN A CASE OF SELF-DEFENSE.  BAEZ REMAINS IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON.

Sentencing in TODDLER’S DEATH

in cambria county court today, sentencing is scheduled for 26 year old patrick burkett of beaverdale who pleaded guilty in the death of his girlfriend’s 22-month old daughter. Burkett was babysitting Reagan Panic while her mother was at work. Reagan died of blunt force trauma to the head at Children’s Hospital in pittsburgh in August of last year.

BLAIR COUNTY CRIMESOLVERS IS OFFERING A REWARD FOR INFORMATION LEADING TO THE ARREST OF a woman who HAS BEEN STEALING wallets from WOMEN’S purses while they shop. ALLEGHENY TOWNSHIP POLICE SAY It’s happened at least 6 times over the last few months in the parking lots of Wal-Mart and Sam’s Club. Stern WON’T RUN AGAIN

rEPUBLICAN STATE REPRESENTATIVE JERRY STERN OF MARTINSBURG TELLS THE ALTOONA MIRROR HE WILL NOT SEEK RE-ELECTION IN 2014. STERN IS CURRENTLY IN HIS 22ND YEAR IN THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY. HE SAYS HE MADE THE DECISION DUE TO THE CHANGING ATMOSPHERE IN THE POLITICAL ARENA…AND ALSO DUE TO A CONGENITAL ILLNESS THAT HAS PUT HIM ON THE LIST FOR A LIVER TRANSPLANT.

CORBETT WANTS ANOTHER TERM

Governor TOM Corbett is running for another term, MAKING THE ANNOUNCEMENT IN Pittsburgh yesterday as part of a statewide tour. CORBETT’S next stop will be in Philadelphia and then in Lancaster for a rally on Saturday. LAST WEEK, A Franklin & Marshall College poll showED THAT 33 PERCENT OF REGISTERED REPUBLICANS SURVEYED THINK Corbett should not seek re-election in 2014. The poll also shows that only 34-percent of Republicans rated Corbett’s job performance positively. 

PATERNO SUPPORTERS PLAN WEEKEND EVENT

SATURDAY MARKS THE SECOND ANNIVERSARY OF JOE PATERNO’S FIRING…AND the centre daily times reports that Penn State football great Franco Harris and OTHER supporters will honor the Late coach with a presentation and panel discussion starting at 7:30 at the days inn on south pugh street in state college. The group thinks Paterno was unfairly fired and that media reports have unreasonably branded him as part of the alleged coverup of Jerry Sandusky’s child abuse allegations.

TREES ARE IN TROUBLE

THE NATIONAL PARK SERVICE SAYS THE HEMLOCK TREES At the Flight 93 NATIONAL MEMORIAL IN SHANKSVILLE ARE IN TROUBLE. OFFICIALS ARE WORKING TO HOPEFULLY PREVENT AN INVASIVE INSECT FROM KILLINGS THE trees. TheY SAY another invasive bug has proven to be one of the most effective ways to kill off the insects, but THEY ARE CONCERNED about bringing IN a beetle that is not native to Somerset County BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE unknown, long-term impacts. Instead, THEY WILL USE a mix of bark spraying, soil tablets, and other efforts FOR THE NEXT 3 YEARS.

PENN STATE FOOTBALL COACH BILL O’BRIEN WILL BE THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT THE 2014 BLAIR COUNTY SPORTS HALL OF GAME BANQUET ON APRIL 26TH AT THE CONVENTION CENTER. PITTSBURGH SPORTSCASTER STAN SAVRAN WILL RETURN AS MASTER OF CEREMONIES. BEN ROETHLISBERGER WAS THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER AT THIS YEAR’S EVENT.
