guilty plea in toddler’s death
in cambria county court yesterday, 26 year old patrick burkett of beaverdale pleaded guilty in the death of his girlfriend’s 22-month old daughter. Burkett was babysitting Reagan Panic while her mother was at work. Reagan died of blunt force trauma to the head at Children’s Hospital in pittsburgh in August of last year. Burkett is scheduled to be sentenced November 7th.

State Police SAY a white male entered the Sheetz on Main Street wearing a mask and gloves. he POINTED a handgun AT EMPLOYEES and demandED money…then fled the scene on foot. Anyone with information is asked to contact State Police.

BACK ON AUGUST 26TH, THEY ALLEGEDLY WENT TO A HOUSE ON EAST BISHOP STREET IN Bellefonte WEARING POLICE VESTS…HIT THE RESIDENTS IN THE HEAD WITH A SHOTGUN…TIED THEM UP…THEN STOLE 10-THOUSAND DOLLARS AND A POUND OF MARIJUANA FROM A SAFE. Freeman and Woodring WERE ARRESTED IN NORTH CAROLINA 2 WEEkS AGO. THEY HAVE waived their preliminary hearings.

a crash about 11:40 last night at pennsylvania avenue and 7th street in smithfield township, huntingdon county. state police say 84 year old alverta peters of huntingdon turned her car in front of a car driven by 47 year old john betz of huntingdon. both drivers and 1 passenger in betz’ car sufferered moderate injuries and were taken to jc blair memorial hospital. 2 others were not hurt.
state police believe 38 year old dameon bumbarger of philipsburg was under the influence of a controlled substance when he wrecked his motorcycle in rush township, centre county, about 3 this morning.bumbarger lost control along state route 504 near hannah furnace race. he slid a short distance and came to rest underneath the bike in the middle of the road.he was not wearing a helmet and suffered moderate injuries

A VICTORY FOR PENN STATE EMPLOYEES. THE university HAS DECIDED NOT TO IMPOSE A SURCHARGE ON EMPLOYEES WHO REFUSE TO UNDERGO MANDATORY HEALTH SCREENINGS AND SURVEYS UNDER THE NEW health care plan. WORKERS WERE CONCERNED ABOUT THEIR PRIVACY…BUT ACCORDING TO THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES… PENN STATE President RODNEY erickson ANNOUNCED THE POLICY WOULD BE SUSPENDED. Smokers and employee spouses will still have surcharges if they don’t comply. Penn State IS NOW forming a task force to look at IMPROVING THE SYSTEM.

MANY COMMUNITIES ARE HAVING MONEY PROBLEMS, BUT Cambria County CONTROLLER ED CERNIC JUNIOR SAYS THE COUNTY IS IN DIRE STRAITS AND THIS IS THE WORST FINANCIAL PICTURE HE’S SEEN IN HIS 10 YEARS IN OFFICE. Cernic TELLS WTAJ, says right now the county has about 5 million DOLLARS, BUT more than 16 million in obligations. Last year, the county owed 6 million dollars at the end of the year.
raising pa’s minimum wage?
A state lawmaker is introducing legislation tO raise Pennsylvania's minimum wage. Senator Christine Tartaglione says the 2 bills would raise the minimum wage to 9 dollars an hour…and would also raise the minimum wage for tipped employees to 70-percent of regular minimum wage. sHE WANTS IT DONE IN STAGES so employers are not hit all at once.
