HOLLIDAYSBURG BORO COUNCIL IS SCHEDULED TO MEET TODAY AT 5 AND POLICE CHIEF JEFFREY KETNER WILL ANNOUNCE HIS RETIREMENT. AFTER MORE THAN 30 YEARS IN THAT POSITION, KETNER WAS PLACED ON PAID LEAVE EARLIER THIS MONTH. ACCORDING TO A STATEMENT RELEASED BY HIS ATTORNEY AND THE BORO’S LABOR COUNSEL, KETNER AND BORO OFFICIALS HAD A DIFFERENCE OF OPINION ON HOW TO RUN THE POLICE FORCE. MEMBERS OF the PUBLIC ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND TODAY’S MEETING.

69 YEAR OLD Wayne Krause OF MEYERSDALE HAS DIED FOLLOWING AN A-T-V ACCIDENT SUNDAY EVENING in Summit Township, Somerset County. POLICE SAY A 16 year-old BOY was towing Krause when the brakEs of ThE A-T-V went out. Krause crashed into the rear of the A-T-V pulling him and was thrown from his vehicle.
IN Cambria County COURT TODAY, SENTENCING IS SCHEDULED FOR 34 YEAR OLD DALE MALLOY OF VINTONDALE WHO PLEADED GUILTY TO REDUCED CHARGES OF HOMICIDE BY VEHICLE IN A FATAL D-U-I WRECK. MALLOY’S PICKUP CRASHED ON CHICKAREE HILL ROAD IN JACKSON TOWNSHIP IN DECEMBER 2011, KILLING his passenger, KAYLYNN REYNOLDS.
Clinton County Coroner Zach Hanna TELLS THE CENTRE DAILY TIMES THAT THE DEATH OF 17 YEAR OLD ALEX WITHERITE HAS BEEN RULED ACCIDENTAL. THE Beech Creek BOY WAS REPORTED MISSING IN DECEMBER AND HIS BODY WAS FOUND IN BEECH CREEK IN JANUARY.HE died of hypothermia.
IN BEDFORD COUNTY, A 3 YEAR OLD GIRL WAS TAKEN TO A PITTSBURGH HOSPITAL SUNDAY AFTER SHE WAS ATTACKED BY A BLUE-NOSED PIT BULL WHILE WALKING WITH HER FAMILY ALONG MILK AND WATER ROAD NEAR EVERETT. THE DOG WAS NOT WEARING A COLLAR AND RAN INTO THE WOODS. THE GIRL’S INJURIES ARE NOT LIFE-THREATENING, BUT SHE IS STILL IN THE HOSPITAL. ANYONE WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THE DOG IS ASKED TO CALL THE STATE POLICE BARRACKS AT 623-61-33.
A JACKSON TOWNSHIP FIRE POLICEMAN WAS HIT BY A VEHICLE MONDAY AFTERNOON WHILE ON THE SCENE OF A CRASH INVOLVING A MOTORCYCLE AND A TRI-AXLE TRUCK ALONG ROUTE 271 NEAR MUNDYS CORNER, Cambria County. THE BIKE’S DRIVER AND THE FIRST RESPONDER WERE BOTH TAKEN TO JOHNSTOWN’S MEMORIAL HOSPITAL. The FIREMAN IS EXPECTED TO BE FINE AND THE driver who hit him Has BEEN cited. NO WORD ON THE BIKER’S CONDITION.
LOGAN TOWNSHIP POLICE CHIEF RON HELLER SAYS FORMER GOODWILL EMPLOYEE David Wilson of Altoona and Dawane James of Verona forced their way into the Goodwill STORE in THE Park Hill Plaza MONDAY MORNING. THEY dragged a female employee, punchED her in the face SEVERAL times, and hEld a gun to her head, threatening to kill her. the 2 stole a few hundred dollars in cash, and TOOK off. a WITNESS followED THEM AND GAVE POLICE DIRECTIONS. AFTER A chase through Logan and Frankstown TownshipS…THEN INTO THE CITY OF ALTOONA…THE MEN CRASHED THEIR CAR INTO A POLE. THEY TRIED TO GET AWAY ON FOOT, BUT WERE ARRESTED. BAIL IS SET aT 150-THOUSAND DOLLARS cash FOR each MAN AND THEIR preliminary hearingS ARE set for Thursday.

David Greenwalt and Robin King ARE FACING FELONY CHILD ENDANGERMENT CHARGES AND ARE IN THE BLAIR COUNTY PRISON WITH A PRELIMINARY HEARING SCHEDULED TOMORROW. ACCORDING TO POLICE, theRE WAS garbage everywhere…MOUNDS OF DIRTY LAUNDRY…no hygiene products…and no electricity. police ARE ASKING THAT the house BE condemned. A SIMILAR INCIDENT HAPPENED RIGHT NEXT DOOR EARLIER THIS MONTH. 4 KIDS WERE ALSO REMOVED FROM THE HOUSE.
JERMAINE MORGAN OF ALTOONA…WHO HAS A LONG CRIMINAL HISTORY…YESTERDAY WAS SENTENCED TO 8 TO 20 YEARS IN PRISON FOR ILLEGAL POSSESSION OF A FIREARM AND OTHER CHARGES. THE GUN MORGAN HAD IN DECEMBER OF 2012, HAD BEEN STOLEN YEARS BEFORE AND MORGAN TOLD POLICE HE PURCHASED IT.

Pennsylvania's credit rating is going down again. Moody's Investors Service announced the downgrade of the state's obligation bonds yesterday, making it one of the 6 worst states out of the 47 states with general obligation debt. The agency cited Pennsylvania's growing deficit and weak reserves. Governor Tom Corbett released a statement saying the pension crisis has put a severe strain on state finances.
