FORMER COP CONVICTED OF CHILD RAPE

A BEDFORD COUNTY JUDGE THIS WEEK FOUND A FORMER NEW YORK CITY POLICE OFFICER GUILTY OF RAPING CHILDREN YOUNGER THAN 13 YEARS OLD. 50 YEAR OLD KERRY SMITH OF EVERETT WAS ACCUSED OF MOLESTING 2 YOUNG SISTERS OVER AN 11 YEAR PERIOD STARTING IN 2000. SMITH WAS DISMISSED BY THE N-Y-P-D DUE TO A SERIES OF MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES. THE DISTRICT ATTORNEY PLANS TO SEEK AT LEAST A 50 YEAR PRISON SENTENCE WHEN SMITH GOES BEFORE A JUDGE OCTOBER 26TH.

FATHER PLEADS GUILTY

A CAMBRIA COUNTY FATHER YESTERDAY PLEADED GUILTY TO 3RD DEGREE MURDER IN THE SHAKEN BABY DEATH OF HIS 7 WEEK OLD SON.24-YEAR-OLD JUSTIN CHARLES SENIOR OF SOUTH FORK FACES UP TO 40 YEARS IN PRISON WHEN HE’S SENTENCED SEPTEMBER 25TH. JUSTIN JUNIOR DIED IN DECEMBER OF 2010 AT CHILDREN’S HOSPITAL IN PITTSBURGH. ONE OF THE PUBLIC DEFENDERS REPRESENTING CHARLES SAID THE DEFENSE WILL SEEK A 10- TO 20-YEAR TERM.

POLICE SHOOTING INVESTIGATION CONTINUES

LAST MONTH, 3 JOHNSTOWN POLICE OFFICERS SHOT AND KILLED ELIP CHEATHAM, CLAIMING HE ACCELERATED HIS CAR TOWARD THEM AS THEY INVESTIGATED A SHOOTING AT A NEARBY BAR. YESTERDAY, FIRST ASSISTANT DISTRICT ATTORNEY HEATH LONG SAID A DECISION HAS NOT YET BEEN REACHED AS TO WHETHER THIS WAS A JUSTIFIABLE USE OF DEADLY FORCE. ANOTHER MAN WHO WAS INJURED IN CHEATHAM’S CAR SAYS HE WAS JUST RUSHING HIS WOUNDED COUSIN TO THE HOSPITAL. THE OFFICERS INVOLVED REMAIN ON ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE WITH PAY.

HEROIN IN ICE CREAM TRUCK

SOME SOMERSET PARENTS THOUGHT THERE WAS SOMETHING A LITTLE OFF ABOUT AN ICE CREAM TRUCK THAT WAS DRIVING AROUND MONDAY AFTERNOON…SUSPECTING THE MEN INSIDE MAY HAVE HAD INTENTIONS TOWARDS CHILDREN WHO WERE BUYING THE TREATS. POLICE SEARCHED THE MAKE-SHIFT ICE CREAM TRUCK ALONG EAST MAIN STREET AND FOUND SOME HEROIN AND VARIOUS DRUG PARAPHERNALIA. THE DRIVER, FRANKLIN SWANEY OF NEW EAGLE PENNSYLVANIA IS CHARGED WITH DRUG POSSESSION, BUT A SECOND MAN IN THE VEHICLE WILL NOT FACE CHARGES.
