SANDUSKY SCANDAL

JERRY SANDUSKY IS IN THE CENTRE COUNTY PRISON AWAITING SENTENCING…PROBABLY NEXT MONTH…AND WJAC TV REPORTS THAT HE’S WRITING A SECOND BOOK WITH HELP FROM HIS WIFE, DOTTIE. PRISON OFFICIALS SAY THERE HAS BEEN SO MUCH PAPERWORK EXCHANGED BETWEEN THEM THAT DOTTIE HAS HAD HER WRITTEN CORRESPONDENCE PRIVILEGES SUSPENDED. SANDUSKY IS NO LONGER ON SUICIDE WATCH AND HAS BEEN DESCRIBED AS A MODEL INMATE, SPENDING HOURS QUIETLY IN HIS CELL. SANDUSKY PUBLISHED HIS LIFE STORY, CALLED “TOUCHED,” YEARS AGO. IT FOCUSED ON HIS TIME AT PENN STATE AND THE FOUNDING OF THE SECOND MILE CHARITY.

JERRY SANDUSKY IS STILL DRAWING ALMOST 59-THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR IN PENSION FROM PENN STATE…AND NOW PENNSYLVANIA LAWMAKERS ARE CONSIDERING A MEASURE THAT WOULD DENY A PENSION TO ANY PUBLIC OFFICIAL OR EMPLOYEE CONVICTED OF A FELONY. THE NEW MEASURE WOULDN'T TAKE SANDUSKY’S PENSION AWAY, BUT WOULD PREVENT SUCH PAYMENTS IN THE FUTURE TO OTHERS WHO ARE CONVICTED OF FELONIES.

DESPITE AN ASSOCIATED PRESS STORY, ATTORNEYS FOR FORMER PENN STATE PRESIDENT GRAHAM SPANIER HAVE NOT SCHEDULED A PRESS CONFERENCE TO DISCUSS WHAT THEY SAY ARE INCONSISTENCIES IN THE FREEH REPORT. ONE OF THE LAWYERS HAS SAID THERE IS THE POSSIBILITY OF A NEWS CONFERENCE NEXT WEEK. THE ATTORNEY WOULD NOT DISCUSS WHETHER SPANIER PLANS TO TAKE LEGAL ACTION AGAINST PENN STATE.

CENTRE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS YESTERDAY REVEALED HOW MUCH MONEY WAS SPENT ON THE JERRY SANDUSKY TRIAL. THE TOTAL IS APPROXIMATELY 56-THOUSAND DOLLARS, WITH 83-PERCENT OF THAT SPENT ON COUNTY EMPLOYEE WAGES. OTHER COSTS INCLUDED LOGISTICAL EXPENSES AND THE FEEDING AND HOUSING OF JURORS. THE COUNTY HAS NOT YET ANNOUNCED HOW MUCH WILL BE COVERED BY THE ATTORNEY GENERAL’S OFFICE.

THE CREAMERY IS DONATING PROCEEDS FROM THE SALE OF PEACHY PATERNO TO AN ORGANIZATION THAT WORKS WITH THE ISSUE OF CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE.

HOLES ALLEGEDLY USED A WOODEN 2-BY-4 WHICH WAS FOUND IN THE TRAILER. HE REPORTEDLY WENT THERE TO GET MONEY HE WAS OWED. HOLES IS CURRENTLY AN INMATE AT A STATE PRISON IN EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA, SERVING TIME ON UNRELATED DRUG CONVICTIONS OUT OF CLEARFIELD COUNTY.

MOM WON’T GET NEW TRIAL

JULIE DICK-CARSON OF HUNTINGDON COUNTY WAS CONVICTED OF HUFFING FROM AN AEROSOL CAN, THEN WRECKING HER CAR AND SERIOUSLY INJURING HER 1 YEAR OLD SON LAST SUMMER…NOW A CENTRE COUNTY JUDGE HAS DENIED HER REQUEST FOR A NEW TRIAL. DICK-CARSON’S ATTORNEY ARGUED THAT AN EXPERT PATHOLOGIST’S TESTIMONY SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ACCEPTED BECAUSE THE EXPERT WASN’T CERTAIN ABOUT SOMETHING. SENTENCING IS SCHEDULED NEXT WEEK.

STATE HEALTH OFFICIALS SAY A CENTRE COUNTY WOMAN IS ONE OF 3 PENNSYLVANIANS RECOVERING FROM WEST NILE VIRUS. 2 OF THE ILLNESSES ARE IN DELAWARE COUNTY MEN AND ALL 3 PATIENTS WERE TREATED IN THE HOSPITAL FOR MENINGITIS. THIS BRINGS TO 5 THE TOTAL NUMBER OF WEST NILE CASES REPORTED IN HUMANS THIS YEAR IN PENNSYLVANIA. THE RISK FOR MORE HUMAN INFECTIONS WILL STAY HIGH INTO EARLY FALL.
