FATAL CRASH OUTSIDE ST. COLLEGE

A DEADLY ACCIDENT YESTERDAY AFTERNOON ALONG THE BENNER PIKE, JUST NORTH OF THE NITTANY MALL IN STATE COLLEGE. POLICE SAY A 43 YEAR OLD MILESBURG WOMAN DIED WHEN AN S-U-V HIT A TELEPHONE POLE. THE VICTIM’S NAME HAS NOT YET BEEN RELEASED. A MAN IN THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO MOUNT NITTANY MEDICAL CENTER. NO WORD ON HIS CONDITION.

SANDUSKY SCANDAL

SOURCES SAY THE FREEH COMMISSION REPORT ON THE JERRY SANDUSKY CHILD SEX ABUSE SCANDAL AT PENN STATE IS NEARLY COMPLETE. FORMER FBI DIRECTOR LOUIS FREEH AND HIS TEAM HAVE COMPLETED HUNDREDS OF INTERVIEWS, FINISHING THEM MONDAY ON CAMPUS. THE FINAL REPORT COULD BE UNVEILED BY THE END OF THIS MONTH OR EVEN SOONER. THE NCAA IS CONDUCTING ITS OWN INVESTIGATION AND COULD IMPOSE SEPARATE SANCTIONS AGAINST THE PENN STATE FOOTBALL PROGRAM OR THE ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT AS A WHOLE.

THE PATRIOT NEWS REPORTS THAT GOVERNOR TOM CORBETT SAYS HE ISN’T SURE WHERE THE INFORMATION CAME FROM, BUT HE IS BOTHERED BY THE LEAKS OF PENN STATE EMAILS FROM THE LOUIS FREEH INVESTIGATION TO C-N-N. CORBETT SAYS HE’S UPSET THAT SOMETHINGS COME OUT PIECEMEAL. THE EMAILS INDICATE THAT JOE PATERNO AND TOP-RANKING PENN STATE OFFICIALS WERE INVOLVED N THE COVER-UP OF JERRY SANDUSKY’S CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE.

POLICE SHOOTING INVESTIGATION

THE LOCAL UNIT OF THE N-DOUBLE-A-C-P IS HOPING FOR ANSWERS SOON AS STATE POLICE INVESTIGATE THE SHOOTING OF ELIP CHEATHAM BY JOHNSTOWN POLICE OFFICERS LAST WEEK.THE TRIBUNE DEMOCRAT REPORTS THAT THE ORGANIZATION HAS SENT A LETTER TO POLICE AND COMMUNITY LEADERS. THE OFFICERS CLAIM CHEATHAM ACCELERATED HIS CAR TOWARD THEM, BUT A MAN WHO WAS IN THE VEHICLE SAYS CHEATHAM WAS RUSHING HIS COUSIN TO THE HOSPITAL AFTER HE WAS SHOT OUTSIDE AN OAKHURST BAR.

JAIL TIME FOR SHOOTER

A CENTRE COUNTY JUDGE YESTERDAY SENTENCED 39 YEAR OLD RANDALL BROOKS OF HOWARD TO 37 TO 77 YEARS IN A STATE PRISON. A JURY CONVICTED BROOKS OF ATTEMPTED HOMICIDE, HARASSMENT AND JURY TAMPERING IN APRIL. AUTHORITIES SAY HE STALKED HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND’S NEW BOYFRIEND, MATTHEW ROSS…THEN SHOT HIM WITH A SHOTGUN AS HE DROVE PAST HIS CAR ON ROUTE 64 IN DECEMBER 2009. WHILE IN JAIL, BROOKS HARASSED HIS EX-GIRLFRIEND AND OTHER WITNESSES…THEN TRIED TO INFLUENCE A JUROR.
