SANDUSKY SCANDAL

DOTTIE SANDUSKY STILL BELIEVES HER HUSBAND, JERRY, IS NOT GUILTY AND SHE’LL APPEAR ON NBC’S “TODAY” SHOW THIS MORNING. DOTTIE SANDUSKY SAT DOWN WITH MATT LAUER MONDAY. JERRY SANDUSKY IS SERVING 30 TO 60 YEARS IN PRISON.

TUESDAY WAS THE FILING DEADLINE FOR THOSE WANTING TO RUN IN THE SPRING PRIMARY. REPUBLICAN 9TH DISTRICT CONGRESSMAN BILL SHUSTER WILL FACE CHALLENGES FROM ART HALVORSON AND TRAVIS SCHOOLEY. ALANNA HARTZOK IS SEEKING THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION.

5TH DISTRICT CONGRESSMAN GLENN THOMPSON IS UNOPPOSED FOR THE GOP NOD. DEMOCRATS RUNNING ARE KERITH STRANO TAYLOR AND THOMAAS TARANTELLA.

IN THE 12TH DISTRICT, REPUBLICAN KEITH ROTHFUS IS ALONE ON THE BALLOT. ERIN MCCLELLAND AND JOHN HUGYA WILL VIE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION.

JAY PATERNO YESTERDAY OFFICIALLY ENTERED THE RACE FOR THE DEMOCRATIC NOMINATION FOR LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR AND THERE ARE 5 OTHER CANDIDATES, INCLUDING FORMER CONGRESSMAN MARK CRITZ OF JOHNSTOWN. THE CURRENT LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR, REPUBLICAN JIM CAWLEY, WILL RUN UNOPPOSED.

NO OPPONENTS CAME FORWARD TO CHALLENGE STATE REPRESENTATIVES KERRY BENNINGHOFF… SCOTT CONKLIN…MIKE HANNA…OR JAKE CORMAN. NEWLY REDISTRICTED STATE REPRESENTATIVE MIKE FLECK OF HUNTINGDON COUNTY WILL FACE CHALLENGER RICHARD IRVIN IN THE REPUBLICAN PRIMARY ON MAY 20TH. THAT RACE DOES NOT HAVE A DEMOCRATIC CANDIDATE.

6 DEMOCRATS ARE IN THE GUBERNATORIAL RACE. INCUMBENT TOM CORBETT HAS A REPUBLICAN CHALLENGER IN ROBERT GUZZARDI.

DEMOCRATIC STATE REPRESENTATIVE GARY HALUSKA OF CAMBRIA COUNTY HAS DECIDED NOT TO SEEK RE-ELECTION AND HE TELLS WJAC THE NEW REPUBLICAN-CREATED LEGISLATIVE BOUNDARIES ARE THE REASON. HALUSKA HAS SERVED THE 73RD LEGISLATIVE DISTRICT FOR MORE THAN 20 YEARS. HIS TERM WILL END NOVEMBER 30TH.

SENTENCING DELAYED IN FATAL WRECK

SENTENCING WAS SCHEDULED YESTERDAY IN CAMBRIA COUNTY COURT FOR 34 YEAR OLD DAVE MALLOY, BUT IT’S BEEN POSTPONED UNTIL MAY 1ST. POLICE SAY THE VINTONDALE MAN WAS DRUNK IN DECEMBER 2011 WHEN HIS CAR CRASHED IN JACKSON TOWNSHIP KILLING HIS PASSENGER 26 YEAR OLD KAYLYNN REYNOLDS, ALSO OF VINTONDALE. INVESTIGATORS SAY HE WAS DRIVING MORE THAN 75 MILES PER HOUR IN A 45 ZONE AND HIS BLOOD ALCOHOL WAS TWICE THE LEGAL LIMIT.

CRASH NEAR HOLLIDAYSBURG

27 YEAR OLD JESSICA BOYLES OF HOLLIDAYSBURG SUFFERED MODERATE INJURIES YESTERDAY AFTERNOON WHEN HER CAR COLLIDED WITH AN ON-COMING VEHICLE ALONG RESERVOIR ROAD IN FRANKSTOWN TOWNSHIP. STATE POLICE SAY THE OTHER DRIVER, WILLIAM MELTON JUNIOR OF HOLLIDAYSBURG, HAS JUST MINOR INJURIES.

HEARING FOR BREAK-IN SUSPECT

A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SCHEDULED TODAY FOR 27 YEAR OLD RICHARD BOGGS OF NEW CASTLE WHO IS ACCUSED OF BREAKING INTO AT LEAST 25 VEHICLES AROUND ALTOONA STARTING IN DECEMBER. POLICE BELIEVE BOGGS WAS STEALING TO SUPPORT A HEROIN HABIT. HE REPORTEDLY CAME TO ALTOONA FOR REHAB.

GAS PRICES STILL CLIMBING TRIPLE A FUEL GAUGE SAYS WESTERN PA GAS PRICES REMAIN UNCHANGED THIS WEEK, STAYING AT $3.66 A GALLON. TODAY’S NATIONAL AVERAGE IS $3.49…3 CENTS MORE EXPENSIVE THAN ONE WEEK AGO AND 20 CENTS MORE THAN ONE MONTH AGO. NATIONAL PRICES ARE STILL 21 CENTS PER GALLON LESS THAN THE SAME DATE LAST YEAR.
