Are there really needy children in this area?
Yes! Over the years, I have seen children show up on the day of our shopping trip with no coats, no hats, and no mittens. One child came wearing jeans and a t-shirt on a cold December morning, and as he waited outside, he shoved his hands under his shirt, trying to keep warm. Another year, a little three-year-old girl came in thin summer socks and sandals, again on a cold December morning.
Life is always difficult for underprivileged children, and our help is needed more than ever. We're all tightening our belts a bit this year. For families that are struggling, a successful Waly Warmth campaign will mean that their children will not go without the essentials that might otherwise be considered a luxury. If you look at some of the pictures posted here, loo closely at the light in the eyes of these children as they enjoy this magical adventure.
What else should I know about Waly Warmth?
- Hundreds of volunteers and contributors make Waly Warmth happen each year, and we are forever grateful for their help.
- In 1997, Waly Warmth was awarded the Blair County Chamber of Commerce Committee's Choice Award Distinction.
- Hundreds of Children have benefited from Waly Warmth over the years. All the children are screened for eligibility by Child Advocates of Blair County.
